Simple October Days And A New Watercolor ~

I adore the easy and simple days of October.
I've been slowly working on a salted watercolor the last week or so.

"Apple Jack....he LOVES apples.
Even if it means stealing them from the neighbor's tree....
he'll do whatever it takes to feed his desire for apples!"

Apple Jack is in my Etsy Shop right now.

He's not fancy or masterful....just a simple, salted watercolor illustration.

I've even been working on some little ACEOs, which I haven't done in years.
I love working in small format, and ACEOs are only 2-1/2" x 3-1/2"....tiny goodness.  I just started one last night.

"Hester's Last Balloons"

Easy days.
Tiny art.

Reading books ~

Autumn garden blossoms ~

A tangle of pink and orange, greeting the cooler days ~

Puppy's favorite sunning spot.
Snoozing in the warmth ~

Lazy strolls.
Treasures hidden in the nooks and crannies.
It isn't unusual to find little bones and feathers this time of year.

With garden clean-up in full swing, you never know what might be hidden beneath the leaves on the hill.

Traces of hummingbird
and lost feathers ~

Keepsakes from previous garden years ~

Sad and harsh yet beautiful.
Nature is a beastly gal sometimes, isn't she?

The days are getting shorter.
The nights are cooler.

Simple days of art.
Warm days in the garden with the puppy.

Holding on to each and every moment.

October Give-Away ~ UPDATED

Good Morning:

Just a quick note to let you know that I am going to keep the give-away going for another few days. Something is terribly wrong with my blogger account and many people weren't able to leave a comment. I'm working through the problem with blogger...so, until I know exactly what's going on, I'll keep the contest up. Unfortunately only 13 people were able to leave comments. 2 of which I left for them. Hmmmm...

Looks like it's that time again ~ time for another give-away. Oh how I love doing give-aways. It's always nice to sell and show your art, but giving it away is something that truly makes me feel, somehow, worthwhile! Maybe I can bring a brief bit of happiness into someone's day when the mail arrives....opening up their mailbox to find a pleasant surprise instead of the daily bills and junk mail!

So, in honor of the spooky-ish Halloween season, I've decided to offer 6 ACEO prints that all have a dark or eerie feel about them. For those of you who may not know about ACEOs...they are collectible, small format art. They can be any medium or theme, but they must adhere to the size requirement of 2-1/2" x 3-1/2". They are the same size as a standard trading card.

All you have to do is leave a comment in the comment section. The winner will be chosen at random by my personal randomizer...my daughter Ava.

The give-away will run until October 10, Sunday evening 6:00 p.m. Pacific time. The winner will be announced the morning of Monday, October 11.

Here are the 6 ACEO prints to be included in the contest:

Guardian of the Masquerade

Amelia Visits the Ghostly Orchards

Secrets Under the Blood Moon

The Lonely Ghost

The Adopted

Damien's Day

Ohhh...and I'll note here ~ the watermarks that you see here on the ACEOs will not be on the actual prints.

As always....thank you ever so much for participating. It is very much appreciated.

Until Sunday:

Secrets Under The Blood Moon

Hello There...it's so good to be back. I believe it's been just slightly over a week since my last visit.

I've been busy working in my studio, as I have two custom pieces to finish. You see, these pieces are very dear to me, as the photos that I am working with are family photos. My dear aunt ( my mom's sister ) who passed away exactly a month to the date after my mom passed, is the focal point for these compositions.

They are to be gifted to my cousin, ( her son ). But, woe is me, I am having a terrible bout of "artist's block". Maybe it's because the pieces are so close to me. I've painted the backgrounds and then re-painted the backgrounds. I've introduced images and re-introduced images...still, I'm not satisfied. So, this weekend, I decided to work on something less personal, to rest my frustration and, hopefully, to find my direction.

It's been a couple of years since the last time I created an ACEO. This particular piece is a bit different, as I have used a neutral background, which allows the integrity of the old photos to hold their places. The neutral-ness also allows the "blood moon" (or Hunter's Moon) to take a bow as well. It's hard to believe, but this is my 210th ACEO. I really prefer to work at 4" x 6" or 5" x 7", but ACEOs are a good way to train the eye to utilize small format bases.

I titled this piece "Secrets Under the Blood Moon". I adore the idea of the Blood moon, which is an alternate name for Hunter's moon, the first full moon after the Harvest Moon. Seems rather fitting this time of year.

You can find this piece in print form at Gerushia's New World.

Now is a great time to sample some ACEO prints, as I'm having a "Buy One Get One Free" sale until the end of October.

Until Next Time, which I solemnly promise not to brutally market my self,

I don't normally list my originals, but I've concluded that I just can't keep everything.
