Autumn Roses, Misty November Days And An Interview.

I admit it, I am not looking forward to winter.

I don't like the shorter days.

I don't like the early darkness setting in.

I am not a lover of the holiday season in general....

But ~

I do love the Autumn.

November roses show off their white glow ~ 

Perfect buttercream petals ~ 

Reaching up towards the sun on misty November days ~ 

Competing against the warm yellow leaves ~ 

Greeting visitors just at our entryway ~ 

An invitation to view bright Autumn chrysanthemums ~

and flaming orange pumpkins ~

These radiant yet hazy days call for a studio clean-up ~ 

and cozying up in my little reading nook ~ 

Fluffy pillows and warm light ~ 

Little reminders of Halloween embellish my studio hutch ~ 

I am happy to stay home.

Inside and outside.

And...truth be known, I rarely leave my house, other than to shop at the grocery.

But, isn't it wonderful to be connected electronically?

It opens up a whole world of goodness and opportunity, doesn't it?

It is a very bad situation.

So, every little bit helps.

The Changing Season and the Color Orange ~

Hello There ~

Can you see the change in the air?

The change from summer to autumn?

Orange is everywhere ~

In the garden ~

A morning coffee cup ~ 

Fresh squeezed orange juice ~ 

Pumpkins have already been welcomed into my backyard ~

(P.S. I grew all the tiny, solid orange pumpkins)

Pumpkins here and there.

On the dining room hutch, paired with delicious autumn apples ~ 

Jack O' Lantern sketch.

Soon to be orange ~

There is a glare to autumn.

An exciting time of change....

but sad, too.

I always feel a little empty during the change from summer to fall.

The oranges of the season help to lighten the mood.

Soon, it will be time for pumpkin carving ~ 

and a love/hate relationship with candy corn ~ 

Early October in Southern California.

I can see the autumn in the air...

but I can't feel it yet.

Today, it will be well over 100 degrees.

Time to stay indoors and dream of the cooler days ahead.

Sadness and Healing. Good and Bad. Light and Dark.

I can't believe it's been over 3 months since my last visit.

Life has been a roller coaster.

Has it ever been that way for you?

Up and down.

Up and down.

A whirlwind right in my very own home.

Life has been crazy ~

Awful, good, sad, creative and insane all rolled into one big unforgettable year.

My husband got a job....thank goodness.

He was hired at the end of July.

Then, my car caught on fire.

But, the worst, saddest, most heartbreaking thing happened ~

So horrible I can barely type it here.

We lost our beloved Kelly to a disease she had been fighting all of her short life.

We thought she was better.

She had not been sick for almost a year.

It came on so quickly and she failed so fast.

We weren't able to save her.

Of all the other craziness going on in our lives,

losing Kelly shattered our hearts the most.

Her brother, Kenan, had never spent a single day away from her.

He's getting better now~

Finding his own way, bit by bit.

Playing with his toys ~ 

They did everything together.

Nap time ~

Birdwatching ~ 

Studio visits ~

and playtime ~

Kenan sticks to me like glue.

He's my shadow ~ 

We are smothering him with love and attention.

Probably too much because he likes to set his own pace.

But, he's going to be okay.

He can hang with me all day in my studio ~ 

Losing Kelly hurt so much for so many different reasons.

Too many reasons to name right now.

But, somehow I had to stop crying.

I just couldn't stop crying.

So, I forced myself back to my art.

It is true ~ 

Art Heals.

Art and family and time and hope.

We are healing little by little.

But I know we will never stop missing her.

In the meantime:

I am finding bits of goodness.

Firelight sunsets ~ 

An unexpected visitor ~ 

Who now has his own chair ~

Freshly baked apple pies ~ 

And the lovely chaos of the Halloween season ~ 

So, life is a whirlwind.

Sadness and healing.

Good and bad.

Light and dark.

My friend Vanessa told me ~

 "This whirlwind of a life is like hanging on to your ruby slippers through a tornado."

Right now, I am hanging on tight.

And I'm happy to be back.

Healing and hoping.

An Autumn Glow and Easy Fall Days ~

Is there an Autumn glow in your neighborhood?

Here I am in Southern California and it looks like Vermont ~ 

Clear blue California skies.

Splashes of multicolored leaves ~

November roses hanging on to the last bits of warm sunshine ~ 

The bees are still busy ~

Working away on the last remaining Morning Glories ~ 

Hungry goldfinch ~

A vacant Bluebird house ~

Hoping to lure those wintery blue birds to my back yard.

Offering them treats made just for them ~ 

So many birds flying all about.

She waits by the window...birdwatching ~ 

Waiting...

to catch another glimpse of that shedding lizard ~ 

After awhile, she gets bored... 

and trots off to look for someone to play with ~

Puppy Playtime ~ 

These quiet and orange colored days find me packing away the last bits of Halloween.

Working in my little studio.

Cleaning my messy desk.

Back to work ~ 

Easy days.

Autumn in the air and in the trees.

Savoring this time that never lasts quite long enough.

In the blink of an eye, it will be Christmas...

Then New Years Eve.

Then...a whole new year.

Today, it is Autumn.

In my yard.

In my home.

And in my bones.
