"Guardian of the Melody Maker" Character Study.....

One of the great joys in my life is creating character studies for the fairy tale I'm writing called "Gerushia's New World.

I love my work and I love the research that goes into writing a book and creating art.

This brand new piece is called ~

(Available through my Etsy shop)

You see, in Gerushia's World there is a lot of music and...a lot of music inspired characters.
This gal is a Melody Maker. She is part of a large group of musical personalities that live within Gerushia's World.
Melody Makers often roam freely and share their music, hoping to bring calm and wonder to their world.

In this piece, you see her practicing under the yellowy skies of an oncoming storm.

I used a scan of my Grandma Watson to create the Melody Maker ~

In Gerushia's World, under the yellowy skies and bruised storm clouds....
you will find kindness, hope, good and evil, comfort and fear.
But most of all, you will find peace.....eventually.

"The Beginning Day For Huck and Pan" and Springing Forward ~

Traditionally, I love this week....the first week of Daylight Savings Time.

Long lasting light and a promise of warmth is just around the corner.
I don't mind losing one hour of sleep.
The trade-0ff is well worth it.

Spring is peek-a-booing in my yard today.
Just a few pink nectarine blossoms ~

Soon, very soon, my nectarine tree will be covered in a riot of pink ~

...and I've just spotted the first secret nasturtium hiding under the daylilies ~

Looking forward.

Staying focused.
Believing that there will be softer days ahead.

Life can be so harsh and ugly sometimes.
Unexpected struggles and long drawn-out darkness has a way of stealing hope.

I cling to the Springtime.

Thankfulness.

Kelly is better ♥

She is taking her medicine and eating her special food.
She's been playing a bit too!

So thankful.

While taking care of this little girl, I worked in the studio ~

and finished this piece ~

This particular piece is very important to the over-all story of "Gerushia's New World."  You see, Huck and Pan (Huckleberry and Pansy) are two of the strongest and boldest characters in Gerushia's World.  They are helpful in the battle against Serafine ~

See, Gerushia's New World is not just the name of my art business.
It is the name of an epic fairy tale that I am writing.
Huge fairy tale!
Every piece of art I create has a character that lives in Gerushia's World and is part of the over-all story.

Serafine is, well, sort of like the Lucifer character in Gerushia's World.

Huck and Pan are very important in the battle against Serafine.

Anyway...if you're interested in either of these original pieces, you can find them in my Etsy Shop.

I am keeping busy in the studio.  Going forward with my art and my story.

Working on a new piece that, I believe, is going to prove to be a challenge!

I am super excited to sink my teeth into this new piece.

I am off to take a long walk.
Clear my head and make plans for the week.

This will be a rough few days for my family and me, but somehow, we'll get by.

Thank you for stopping by.

Looking Back ~ "Sister Ophelia's Unfortunate Picnic" and "The Uninvited" ~

Hello There:

What a whirlwind week it's been.  Some things good and some things trying.

I said goodbye to the last bouquet of Autumn Roses ~

Opened the last bag of 2012's Boysenberries ~

Which is now a pie ~

...and found a new home for the front porch Chrysanthemums ~

The chaos of Christmas is almost here.  I can feel it creeping up in my bones ~

I love the idea of Christmas, but the chaos and materialism exhausts and disappoints me every year.

But...onward I go.

I am still in "sales mode" in my Art Shop.  Everything has been marked down by 50%.  This includes original art, art prints and even a few "gnarly-dolls" thrown into the mix.

I was looking back today, trying to find some of the little stories that I originally wrote to go along with my collages.  Last year, when my computer crashed, I lost all of my little short stories.

Well, I found them on JacketFlap!!  JacketFlap is a site that connects authors, illustrators and publishers of Children's books.  My blog posts run through their site each time I post.  So....they have a record of all my old blog posts and I found my stories!!  I am so excited.

So....I thought I would share 2 of them with you.  They're just simple little stories, mind you. I don't publish an ending to the stories because I like the reader to come up with their own endings.  However, I do have the endings written for myself.  Would you like to read 2 of them?

Okay!

"Today is Miss. Laramie Rabbit's big tea party.  All of her friends will be there, ready to have a day of fun and food ~ yummy little rosy cupcakes, delicious boysenberry turnovers and sweet, minty tea. But....someone dark and eerie has made an appearance...someone or something Uninvited!! What will the day bring for Miss. Laramie and her friends?"

And...

"Do you like picnics? My sister Ophelia loves them...

A warm day under the full moon....waiting for our friends to arrive ~ oh the lovely flutter of summertime butterflies.  I remember so well, that day.  The day of the unfortunate picnic.  You see, we had everything perfectly planned,  and then..."

So...you see?  You get to make up your own ending for the stories.

Both of the originals are long ago sold, but....you can get them both in print version for 50% off right now in my shop.

I think art,  and anything handmade really, makes spectacular gifts.  So unique and heartfelt.

Do you agree?

"A Constant Presence"...

Hello Again!

Just wanted to pop in and show you my newest little watercolor.  This piece is entitled:  "A Constant Presence".  The image size is 5" x 7" with a border large enough to allow for framing.   It's listed in my new shop category called ~  "Affordable, Original Watercolors".

I am having so much fun creating characters with watercolor again.  You see, once upon a time, my dream was to write and illustrate children's books.  I would spend hours creating characters and illustrating these "books".  This is really taking me back to where it all began and I am loving it!

If you're interested in this piece...you can view it in my shop right  HERE.

Keep in mind...these watercolors are not masterpieces.  They are not perfect.  However, they are fun and affordable.  This is a great way to own affordable, original, one of a kind art.  I am offering these at the same price as my art prints!!  AND...I'm hoping to offer 5 a week.  This will challenge me to create almost daily!

Thanks so much for stopping by and having a look!

Decisions...decisions....

Whirlwind!!! This one simple word has become a constant in my life. My current situation fits snuggly into this category ~

In the next 12 hours, I have to make a decision. For me, that is a huge, scary beast!! So....I have come here to ask for your help. I ask you because I trust your judgement. I trust you.

I need to choose one watercolor / collage to be in a small format art show in Riverside, California. One and only one. I have narrowed it down to two. At this point, I am asking for your opinion.

Between now and this Saturday, I have to make a choice, have the piece matted and framed and delivered. HELP !!!!

Here is choice number one: "The Changeling Moon" ~

Choice number two: "The Uninvited" ~

As you can probably tell, I am a bit overwhelmed, but I am also very thankful for the opportunity to show my work. Your heartfelt opinion will be ever so appreciated. All you need to do is leave a quick comment with your choice.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart:

Can a Gal Change Her Mind Twice In One Week?

Hello There:

Surprise!! (or not!), I've decided to list another original watercolor / collage that I had intended on keeping. I must stop holding onto all these originals. I create them because they make me happy, but I also create them to make other people happy as well. So, I have just listed "Delilah's New Day" ~

If you would like to learn more about this piece, you can read all the details at Gerushia's Big Cartel store.

I triple dog promise that I'll be back soon with a fun, non-marketing blog post!!

Have a fabulously sunny day:

Delilah's New Day.

What fun I had yesterday, playing in my studio with Delilah. She's so sweet and spotted and extra, extra large. Delilah is a Great Dane...

She belongs to my very dear and very old friend (pre-kindergarten friend) Debbie. Oh, Delilah wasn't REALLY in my studio, but I played with her photo all day long. I introduced her to a curious Rabbit, dressed her in a new orange hat and created an all around new day for her..."Delilah's New Day" ~

I just adore playing with bits and pieces of paper body parts....creating new worlds, new friends, new days. Oh, wouldn't it be lovely to walk right into a new world and make friends with the likes of Delilah in her new orange hat...to have tea with a curious Rabbit? In my dreams...I have met them all~

"Delilah's New Day" has just been listed in Gerushia's Etsy Shop. AND...for the rest of the week, this new piece will be included in the BOGO sale. Buy any print 4" x 6" or larger and get another print (your choice) for free.

Delilah and her Rabbit pal are ever so excited for you to spend the day with them...to spend a NEW day together.

Until Next Time:
Kim

Eula's Party

I adore parties. Eula is having a very special party and she's invited me to join her. Would you like to come along?

Eula is the little girl on the left with the short blonde hair. The pretty dark haired girl on the right is Marvie (who later married Loyd, who was married to Gerushia before she passed away). They were sisters and they were my aunts. This photo was taken in the Fall of 1919. Aren't they the cutest little country girls?

You can find this newly listed original in Gerushia's New World on Etsy.

Thanks for having a look.
